Raj is a strategic leader in Equality, Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging (EDI&B), a researcher, and an aspiring PhD candidate. She holds an Law LLB (Hons) at University of Sheffield, A Masters (LLM) in Law focussed on the Equality Act (2010) and completed the Legal Practice Course at BPP Law School. Her work brings legal expertise, lived experience and principled practice together to create environments where people feel psychologically safe, valued and able to thrive.
Raj’s leadership has been recognised nationally with three honours:
- The Phoenix Award for outstanding contribution to EDI strategic impact, race equity expertise, wellbeing and belonging
- The Inclusive Impact Award for advancing systemic change in EDI through strategic leadership and governance
- The Houses of Common NEON Award for excellence in widening participation programme design, delivery and impact
Across Higher Education in Yorkshire, Raj has combined strategy, delivery and partnership working. At the University of York she designed and delivered the award winning Shine, a flagship widening access programme. She later served as Programme Manager for the Yorkshire Consortium for Equity in Doctoral Education (YCEDE), a £4m+ multi‑university collaboration focused on race equity in postgraduate research.
Raj is a passionate advocate for education and research as engines of opportunity. Through her consultancy, she works with universities and organisations to embed EDI&B into systems, culture and everyday practice, with a focus on psychological safety, race equity, and inclusive research environments.
She is committed to strengthening representation across the research pipeline and ensuring that Sikh researchers and all researchers from underrepresented backgrounds, can access environments where they feel safe, supported and able to contribute fully.
